For details of services in the coming month, see the monthly poster.

Prayer is a vital part of the Christian life - individually and corporately. Just as breathing keeps our physical bodies going, so our spiritual life is energised by prayer. It's more than presenting a "shopping list" of requests to God - it's about developing a relationship with Him.

"There is a mighty lot of difference between saying prayers and praying." (John G. Lake)

Resources

A prayer resource worth exploring to develop your prayer life both as an individual and in groups is www.prayereleven.org.

Tuesdays 8:45am

Each Tuesday morning at 8:45 there is a meeting for morning prayer in the church.

Wednesdays 10:00am

Each Wednesday morning at 10:00 there is an informal prayer meeting for prayer in the church.

Julian meetings

Julian prayer follows the practice of the medieval mystic Julian of Norwich. It is a form of silent, contemplative prayer when we seek more to hear from God than for Him to hear from us.

Meetings happen twice a month:

  • Evenings: on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm in church
  • Afternoons: on the third Tuesday of the month at 2:15pm in church

At St. Michael's we offer a variety of different types of service to suit all tastes.  Traditional, contemporary, contemplative - find the one that suits you best and come along to see how it fits.

Sunday 8:45am

This is a traditional service of Holy Communion, with hymns, readings, sermon and choir anthem (when the choir are present).

In a normal month, the choir will lead the singing on the 1st and 3rd Sundays in the month.

Coffee is served after this service, providing an opportunity for the congregations for this and the following service to meet.

Sunday 10:15am

The 10:15 service is always contemporary in style. The music is lead by the music group.

It usually starts with a block of songs (although there is sometimes a well-known hymn as well). There will be readings, a talk, and an opportunity to respond to the talk especially if it has challenged some aspect of your life. The service will usually finish with another song.

The precise format will vary - some services will include the youngsters (“All-Age Worship”) and some will include Holy Communion, and there may be a baptism as well.

Coffee is served before this service in church (providing an opportunity for the congregations for this and the previous service to meet) and after the service in the Church Hall.

Sunday 6:30pm

This service is Evensong - hymns, a psalm, a reading and a sermon, with a choir anthem.

The service is held in Breaston only on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays in a month.

On the 1st and 3rd Sundays, the service is held in Draycott (the neighbouring parish) either at St. Chad’s (Wilne) or at St. Mary’s (Draycott).

Thursday 9:30am

The Thursday morning service of Holy Communion is held at 9:30am, usual in the chancel. It is a simple “said” service.

Coffee is often available after the service, courtesy of one of the members of the congregation.
